Aug. dad + my new dragonfly= crash.

Went out to crissy field with my Dad to fly my new copter.
I practiced hovering and other basic turns and stuff.
Then my Dad wanted to try it so I gave him the controls.
He thought it would be fun to see how high it would go so he flew it allitle to high......it fell......I screamed.......crash. It looked like it had landed on the grass so I thought it was ok. But when i got to it. AAA! It had fell from a very high hight and landed on the sidewalk! right at the borderling of the grass.
I tried flying it. It spun around like crazy. the back rotor no longer worked.

I cried. WA. The problem is in the circuit board and it has to be replaced with another 49.860 mhz board.
But wa. I cant find it anywhere for sale.
So yeah. Not usre if this is funny or not but I thought I would post it here.
Broken Heli on my very first day.

Hopefully I can find a new circuit board for sale.
I posted in the wanted/trade section of the board so if you got one....let me know!

yah.

Re: Aug. dad + my new dragonfly= crash.

Glad tosee my dad isnt the only one to crash a heli. Cept for with my BCX, it was a $3.00 fix. Took it to the LHS, they fixed it for free, and i just bought new landing skids. Well actualy, $3.00 is a little low, I guess $1000 is more like it since that same day my dad went out and bought me a Swift. The $3.00 fix didnt come till a few months later.

Re: Aug. dad + my new dragonfly= crash.

Freind of mine had a Concept DX nitro...30 size....went to fly it...got it started.....then lost control....looks like the batterys went flat...no failsafe....no nothing....heli sat there screaming away.....then took off and went right up into the heavens....did some wild aerobatics and then headed towards town.....fortunately it went crazy again....and splashed down in the sea....never to be found again.

Scared the living crap out of Him....as it flew around He had to run about warning people who were out playing on the beach....told them to get under cover...PRONTO!!!

The story had a funny ending.....could have got very nasty very quickly otherwise.

Moral? always use a battery checker....always fit a failsafe.....and never assume anything.

Failsafes scare me. Even if you have a failsafe, your still in trouble arent you? I mean there really isn't a need in Helis is there? We were talking about it at my club a few weeks ago, and we all agree that if you lose control of your heli due to batteries either failsafe or no failsafe, your in trouble.

I may be wrong though.

Jeff

P.S. Sorry to hear that minimotu :/ Maybe you'll get lucky like hawkman and get a Swift too! :0)

Re: Aug. dad + my new dragonfly= crash.

Hi Jeff,

In the UK they have now made it mandatory that if the RX has a failsafe, it MUST be set. I dont think will do much in the event of a battery failure because you need battery power to move the servos to their failsafe positions. As you say, its debatable how much use one would be on a heli, if it comes in, you will be very lucky to save the model, the only thing that is guaranteed is that its going to come down. Which I expect is why the regulation is in place in the UK now.

Take Care... Azzy

Which always begs the question: Where?

Re: Aug. dad + my new dragonfly= crash.

Well hopefully in the field that it was launched from. Thing is if the engine / motor is at idle / stopped, then the blades are gonna be freewheeling and loosing energy as it comes down so anything it hits isnt gonna be sawed (much) lol.

Take care... Azzy
