| Cojones is all you need Ok, before I begin my story, I have to tell you that I live in Mexico City because it plays a big part of what I'm about to write. There are no, or maybe a miniscule few RC Heli enthusiasts down here, you see planes and cars, but NO helis. So, I bought a nice used Concept from e-bay in pretty good conditions and fully loaded, and while the 1 month delivery time ended, I was already surfing the web and printing everything I found regarding setting up and trimming this piece of engineering machinery called Concept 30! So finally, my new toy arrives. I took it all apart and back together very carefully just as the intructions said as well as some printouts from rc heli web pages said too. Balanced the blades, pitch adjustments....the works! So it is launch day and I'm in my parents backyard (I chose my dads' house because it's a pretty big field) and well, I don't have any experience in this kind of sport and since I'm in Mexico City, there's no one able to help me out, so, the hell with it, I'm Mexican and I'm sure I have some of Pancho Villa's blood in me. So I fire up th engine, it starts purring like a Ferrari, tune it up a little for 2500 meters above sea level and start doing the basic movements advised by RC HELICOPTER FEVER! After the 1st tank, everything went great, but let me tell you something: BOOOOORING!!!! I had 2 RC planes, one electric and the other a gas powered Prelude, so I needed some fast moving action and since everything was going well, I jumped from lesson 2 to lesson 7: Forward Flight! Well, let me tell you that I did accomplish some forward flying into my dads' 5 month old BMW 540i !!!! The blades ripped open the front grade and did some damage to the headlights....I had to pay my father about 3,000 pesos (300 USD) and just ordered spare parts (another 150 USD) for the Concept as well as additional blades because I don't think this will be the end of the story. My advice is: BE PATIENT and DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT fly these things near expensive things...specially a BMW! |
