Re: Blade CP Down!

I plan on tearing into this project in just a couple of hours. I will take pictures as I go and share them with the group. Should be pretty cool if all goes well But you know about Murphys law

Re: Blade CP Down!

Had to giggle at the ceiling crash....., once i learnt to hover well i was getting impatiant with the flight times, to short on stock batteries.

That was until i found "the ceiling sucker", lift off got within a 30 cm from the ceiling, and quickily reduced the throttle by more that half, the result longer fly times on stock batteries, at least 15 mins.

But be very careful when placing her up there, i did the same and sucked her to the ceiling, thought it was funny until she drifted to the wifes new light fittings....its ok they suvived, and ive now upgraded to li-po, but i still like to get even longer flight times (near the ceiling) just for fun

Re: Ceiling sucker !!!!!!beware

the "ceiling sucker" happens when the pilot gets cocky near the ceiling of the room ur flying in !!!
Think how ur main rotor works, it draws air from above and pushs it downwards giving you lift,ok
this inturn gives negative pressure above the rotor, and positive below
Once u get near a ceiling the negative pressure gets higher and higher, which inturn creates suction, (heres on of my silly analogies) think of a hovercraft in reverse, or for u 3d flyers, trying to take off with the 3d switch on.......

So, once ur heli gets near the ceiling, it needs less lift, so inturn alot less throttle to hold her up there, hence longer flight times, less power used......

Another analogy is , if u hold a hovver nozzle in the air , u dont feel the suction, now move it closer to the wall, the closer u get, the higher the suction, due to negative pressure............

Be warned though, wifes dont like picking up the lamp shades..........

OK, even while being sicker than a dog (Which I am anyway ) I have managed to rebuild my CP with the Low profile stronger landing gear and the all aluminum frame, tail boom and tail motor mount. As soon as I can get the attachment problem fixed I will upload some pictures.
Over all I am pleased with the way it all came out. The alum. frame and the low profile landing gear I don't think was ever meant to go together. But after being a machinist for 20 years I have a way of making things work. Not really that big of a deal. The only big difference is the battery (I run Lipo's) is all the way forward. It sits right underneath the 4-1. UI also had to come up with a way to mount the 4-1. What I did is cut the old 4-1 mount off of the broken frame a glued the mount to my new frame.
As for setup. Everything on this site talks about setup..... this has to be the most important thing you can do. When checking blade pitch, I found I was at -2 from the factory. Not so good for a new pilot. +2 will get you you in hover at a lower head speed. Then when you are ready for FF, set it back to zero.
For pictures, check the gallery. Maybe I can pull a fast one and post them there.

Re: Blade CP Down!

Be even more careful with the alumi frame. Everything you have now is stonger than what the manufacturer made, so look for your weak links and watch out for those. With you being a machinist I know you know that by making one part stonger, you've made another part weaker. Love to see the pics, sounds pretty cool.
