| At an exhibition I'm sure I saw a Hummingbird take off and land under perfect control. I have a Twister (FP) and even the video with it shows rather drunken activity when close to the ground. Would CP help? The Hummingbird seemed tame enough to land on the pilots hand whereas my Twister tries to kill me if I go anywhere near it. With training can Twisters get to be as well behaved as Hummingbirds? New user.. many thanks to all involved.. |

| Re: Perfectly controlled take-off and landing.. moe3754 (elsewhere) points out that helis are very dangerous and the landing on the hand trick is a very bad example to set in a demonstation . I fly tethered.. (if of interest I'll explain how at some point).. I am certainly in no position to say it's a good way to learn to fly because after a year I still can't even manage a Tail in hover for more than a few minutes but at least there is no possibility of damage to me or anything else. ![]() Last edited by Emu : 07-17-2005 at 10:27 AM. | Re: Perfectly controlled take-off and landing.. I do think that a CP provides a bit better control against the ground effect. It also has a lot more that can go wrong and fix. I learned on a fixed and now am still learning on a collective, but it seems much more responsive. |

| Re: Perfectly controlled take-off and landing.. I'm a newbie and have no idea wat a fixed pich and acollective pich does and 2 start with what is a pich? Sorry i'm so no rc heli educated i only started liking them like a month ago ![]()

| Re: Perfectly controlled take-off and landing.. Thanks stoneypine, that's what I needed to know.. was the improved response the result upgrading or starting again witha new heli? Hopefully I'm past the breaking things stage.. but then I suppose everyone thinks that. Danzi.. I'd put your question about collective pitch up on the Getting Started in RC Helicopters section .. there's lots of discussion about what to do with it once you know but no help if you don't. |

| Re: Perfectly controlled take-off and landing.. Danzi Collective pitch and fixed pitch.Fixed pitch means that the blade has the pitch of the blade formed in it already if you look at the blade from the end you will see that the blade is curved from the leading edge to the trailing edge thus causing lift and the amount of lift is regulated buy the speed of the rotors, more speed more lift and so on. Collective pitch is created by servos that tilt the rotor blade up or down, collective pitch blades are shaped like small wings flat on the bottom and curved on the top which in turn causes some lift but the servos also tilt the leading edge up to cause the rotor to push air down and causing lift. Also where the speed on a fixed pitch causes lift with collective pitch speed of the rotors is constant depending on the heli and the size of the rotor disk.My Trex had a head speed of around 2200 rpm while my Voyager E with a larger rotor disk is around 1800 rpm and my Freya Nitro has not been put on the tach, yet but I would say around 1600 to 1800 rpm. With a collective pitch you have to set your pitch curve and throttle curve to achieve the maximum lift and preformance out of your rotor blades, that is why with the more expensive CP heli's you need the more advanced radio systems, the smaller CP helis that come with radios are very limited because the radios are made just for that heli and really can not be used on say the more expensive Nitro or Electric helis like the Logo or the Voyager E or the Raptors or my Freya. To fly those you need either a Futaba or a Hitec computer radio.JR also makes these kind of raidos but I have not used one of theirs so I cannot say how they work.I hope this clears up your question on FP Vs CP. or helps a little so you might understand the difference. ![]() |
