Post Venom Night Ranger Issues

Hi everyone! I recently bought a Venom Night Ranger micro. I'm very impressed with the level of engineering put into this ship. It looks great but initially it had "issues" with lift-off stability and shaking. I got the shaking worked out, (blades not being loose enough on the mount to allow full extension during rotation). The second problem was with a right roll on lift-off. I believe this is due to the motor shaft having significant up and down play in it. This play, as the ship started to get light on the skids, would allow the main rotor to lift and thus change the pitch of the flybar paddles inducing a tendancy to roll right. Transmitter trim isn't enough to remove the roll tendancy. The maual pretty much is useless for troubleshooting. I thought it would be more informative and include a troubleshooting section, but it doesn't. I'm impressed with Venom's technical support. They were more than helpful. I dicussed these issues with them the other day and they agree with my assessment. Here are the fixes. The hole in the blade may have some flashing left in the screw hole from the moulding operation . Lightly ream the hole out just enough to allow for movement of the blade on the screw. Be careful not to make the blade too loose on the screw. The roll problem is just as easy to fix. On the main shaft to the rotor there is either a wheel collar with set screw or a piece of tight fitting silicon tubing. Just lift the main rotor shaft all the way up and slide the wheel collar or tubing down the motor shaft until it is ALMOST touching the bearing below it. You may need to set the flybar and servo arms again if you messed around with them. Well! Gotta run! Later! Dave

Re: Venom Night Ranger Issues

Hello All,
I am a recent buyer of the venom night ranger and i have the same problems as you have except it rolls to the left. It is so bad that i have spent money repairing from crashes and it hasnt even left the ground. I have tried everything that i know(which isnt much) to fix it and nothing works. You would be my hero if you could explain a little more in depth how to fix this problem or guide to a place that would help me to understand what you are talking about. Mean while i will finishing rebuilding it and hopefully by the time i get done i will know more.

Re: Venom Night Ranger Issues

I have the exact same issue. I have been off the ground with my Night Ranger for about 2 seconds, only to slam sideways int the ground. I have already put two tail rotors and the center pivot deal of the main rotor...

Re: Venom Night Ranger Issues

I am an old Kyosho Nexus 30 pilot until it ditched in 1998. Have not picked up my radio until last week. Reason being, I purchased one of the Night Ranger helo's.

I can say that it was a big step from long ago for some reason. This little one is very much less forgiving. I also have had problems with lift off's, as I am still re learning the hover at this point.

I have noticed considerable left side take off attitude. I am down at the moment due to another issue. Tail motor has crapped out on me.

I am also having problems powering up the ESC / Gyro board on initial startup. Takes me sometimes more than ten times to plug and unplug the dang thing.

I am seriously considering the first upgrade being a brushless or coreless tail motor. I tore apart the old one and noticed the brushes were tore to hell. Wondering if the stock one can really handle it or not.

Glad to have joined the forums here. Hopefully more of the Night Rangers are out there to feed us input on this new helo.

Re: Venom Night Ranger Issues

I've had the Venom for about 2 months now, and I've just been attempting the hover in the backyard for a few minutes at a time.

Now a 20 second controlled flight is exciting, but I had something happen yesterday I was not prepared for.

A mate of mine has been flying the Real Flight Simulator for about 2 weeks, and has become very proficient at it. His first fly of the Venom was very controlled - I guess a lot of crashes in the SIM pays off on the real deal.

Guess who's now buying a copy of the Real Flight Sim? - lol

Regards,
Ramjet
