ESC overheat prob.

i'm using the stock 25 amp esc on a blade 400. w/ 401 gyro & 9254 servo.
esc started overheating when I installed gyro, servo I have installed a step down regulator between gyro and servo still overheats in about 30 seconds.

What else might cause this? Was told I should'nt need a bec.

Re: ESC overheat prob.

It might depend on the power curve setup. I have a 25amp esc on my trex 450 and it doesnt like too high a power curve...had quite a few issues with this so backed the power demand down a bit and its been quite ok so far.

I would say a BEC might be good with a higher power esc, where the heli is set up for high rpm and performance.

Re: ESC overheat prob.

Found out my esc was fried. I'm gonna keep a closer eye on this one if it happens again i'll probably go to a 35 amp.

When you say power curve is that the same as throttle curve?

I do have my throttle curve set to 100% at all points in idle up and all except points 1&2 in standard mode, I find the gyro holds much better this way.

Thanks again for your input!!

Re: ESC overheat prob.

I also found out I was suppose to install a step down regulator between gyro and tail servo the futaba s9254 servo and several other also are not rated for 6 volts. It can damage the servo.

So any one else reading this with similar problems might want to check your servo ratings.

Re: ESC overheat prob.

Ok, sounds like that ESC just wasnt cut out for the 100 percent thing.

Yes, the power curve is the throttle curve. I am convinced that the lower end ESCs just arent cut out for full on power demands...guess its down to costs...ie keeping the heli deal as low as possible while not giving up on performance to a certain level.

I notice that the Trex 450 SE has a 35 amp as standard, one of the guys at work has one, I have had a good look over it...nice kit.

I dont have any experience with the Blade though, sounds like a good deal though.

I run almost the same set up as you and I was told that you really do need one.

I bought this one for under $10 with shipping

It made a world of difference.. My esc never gets hot now.
