Re: DragonFly 22 CCPM 6CH Helicopter

Does anyone have any experience with dealing with this company (HobbyJapan2000?) I'd like to get started in helicopters (I have limited experience with R/C planes,) and I'd like to keep things inexpensive while I'm in the begining stages...

Along those lines, would anyone care to add some input as to whether this would be a good option for a first chopper? As much as I'd like to work with gas choppers, I'm thinking I should leard on electric since the cost is much lower...

Re: DragonFly 22 CCPM 6CH Helicopter

hi i have bourght the same heli, much the same as you, think they are priced ok i got mine dlivered for a hundred, parts are cheap for them if you order from seller, i have ordered eight packs and two of each of them delivered for 28.65 which aint bad, i have no knowlege of hobby japan , i deal with rchelicopter@minidragonfly.com, very good communication, if you need to know any more drop me a line, i can even tell you which parts are most common to break, i have a goood basic knowledge of stuff but i am also an avid learner too, just keep breakin mine each time i do stuff.

I have heard nothing good about HobbyJapan2000, and many unhappy customers. There are plenty of other more reliable sources for the 22a and its parts. chan_siub@sinatown.com has been good to me.

Though I had a nitro heli back in the early 80's I just got back into heli's recently after years of RC Planes, cars, trucks, boats...

I have a 22a. I replaced the radio (forcing the replacement of the ESC). It took a few hours to setup, adjust, ballance etc. Certainly not a charge up and fly out of the box situation.

Not a bad little machine, but like most heli's and RC flying machines, you will be replacing parts due to wear and breakage. Luckily, the 22a and the Hornet II parts are interchangable and the Hornet II has better parts (stronger, tighter specs). Take a look at Helihobby.com for these Hornet II parts.

If you are going to go CP than I suggest getting a sim to practice on. Go slow and take your time learning each orientation, tail in, Left/right side and nose in hovering. Did I mention go slow and take your time....!!! 3 to 4 charges for each (at least) before you go any higher than a foot from the ground. Use the training gear....very important......will save you lots of $$$.

What makes the 22a a good first heli is the price of the replacement parts and the availability of beautiful CNC upgrades for the Hornet II.

Re: DragonFly 22 CCPM 6CH Helicopter

Boy-o-boy.... I wish you had posted that about three weeks ago!

Add me to the list of unhappy customers of HobbyJapan2000.... I'm rather disgusted with how they operate! I ended up ordering that heli, and I did finally get what I paid for, but it took a lot of e-mailing before they finally ended up shipping it.... to the wrong address! I complained, but they refused to admit they did anything wrong. All I was asking for was a sorry, but they kept trying to blame the error on me, even though every single e-mail I sent them had my shipping address (different from billing address,) written right on it....

Ah well.... As I said, I finally got my new heli (just yesterday as a matter of fact,) and I can now start learning.... Any recomendations on a good sim?

G2 is a great sim, though you may not have a hobby store readily available that carries it. If that is the case, or you just blew your wad on the heli and cringe at spending another $150 plus right away, I recommend the Free FMS. The physics are not as realistic as G2, but if you add a slight breaze and thermal action to the sciene setup, it will help you learn hovering and response at the different orientations. Its not the best but it will help until you get G2. Seeing how you have the heli and are just a few hours away from spinning it up, free and easily down loadable is a plus. Do a google search for FMS Flight sim. you will find the software on the first results page and tons of addin models throughout. Just remember that the physics are not pure and a real life hover requires alot more attention and input. A low tech (I feel everyone cringing already) answer to the controller issue is a $15 two stick USB Game controller at wallmart or such store. I know, its not perfect by far but neither is the sim and I found it helpful. I don't have G2, though I play the one at the hobby store everytime I go, and I believe it truly helped me. Other than that, G2 is probably your best $ worth.

Like I said before though, the training gear on your heli is going to save you the most money. One other thing, if you can find a gym or large room with a smooth hard floor it will help keep it in one piece longer while you trim it up and work towards that first hover. carpet tends to grab the training gear and made me input trim more than I needed.
