Angry Hover Lites Newbie

I know this is a cheap helecopter but this is also my first and I didn't won't to tear up a hundred dollar choper. I take the hoverlite Fresh out of the box and after an overnight charge I tried to fly it the next day. Ah but only disapointment did I receive. The chopper went air born and flew totally uncontrollably. The tail was whipping to the right and the directional control on the transmitter gave no results. As directed by the manual I adjusted the screw (Potentiometer) on the circuit board one half a turn in the direction indecated. When put to flight it there was no difference. I turned the screw another half turn in the same direction which did not help. I turned the screw three then four turns in the opposite direction only to see no difference. I then strapped the chopper down by the landing rails so I could get a stationary view of what was going on. The tail rotor was still pulling the tail to the right.

Can anyone help here.
Thanks
