Question about adding weight...

Hey all,

Im playing around with the idea of getting the Esky honeybee King II (mainly because its cheap and still quite good) - however I was wondering I was planning on upping the motor to a more powerful brushless one along with a bigger battery, I want to be able to add maybe another 100 grams to the weight of the heli - do you think this will be possible?

If so what other mods would you suggest (New blades would also be another thing on my check list).

I am wanting to add a wireless camera to the rc and maybe a soft foam pellet gun sometimes. (the wireless cam weighs about 85grams + 9volt batt, the pellet gun may weight more than that)

What do you all think? (and yeah I know all about the legalities of weapons on rc's but being the soft foam pellets it shouldnt be too much of a hassle - or so I've been advised by my lawyer ;-D)

Re: Question about adding weight...

It will handle it as I have done the same thing to my Walkera 36. I haven't hung a gun on it but I have flown it with a camera and training gear at the same time and it handled it fine. I am using the Align 430L and a 2200 mah 18c battery and getting good flight times.

Re: Question about adding weight...

There is a school of thought that states an RC heli can carry its own weight again...so whatever your heli weighs it should be able to carry that again...my gasser weighs in at 5.2 kgs so I could carry 5.2 kgs of camera gear...but I would bother trying!

You will sacrifice a bit by adding weight, flight time will be limited a bit...as well as how the heli moves...depending on weight and where it is in relation to the main shaft/rotor head.

Theres no point doing a boring discussion on this, but if you add some breeze when you are hovering/flying about you will get added lift so there is a tradeoff of sorts.

Try it out, if the heli lacks power and the battery seems to die, then do land...dont try extracting the maximum out of a battery...it will get ruined.

So...a camera and a pellet gun? who or what are you going to destroy

Re: Question about adding weight...

Just a funny idea I had. I have a miniturised laser tag gun available (we've dropped its weight by about 2/3'ds - but it still weighs about 300 grams) for a mobile ref - the laser tage maze has a huge open area above the maze (its enclosed thankfully - so no wind). And the games last about 15 min.

So im Hoping with a bit more effort we can drop the weight of the laser tag gun by another 100grams at least - 200 preferred.

The gun I want as a thing to annoy the locals (ie work mates hehe)
