Belt-cp - What am I doing Wrong.....?

just flew my heli again and I smashed it to bits......!!!

I have broke the blade, centre feathering shaft, plastic links and main gear, at a cost of about £15-20.

I have flown it about 5 times and its my second crash, the first being minor.

am i rushing it trying to fly it, because I cant hover that well or do I need to fly it - to learn how to hover - can someone give me advice?

Do I sell it now before it cost me a fortune or do I carry on?

thx if you can help.

Hi evojudas
Don't give up. You need to take it nice and slow. Hovering is the most important thing to learn to get you started on your way to fling heli's. Every flight starts and ends with a hover. Checkout Radd's School of Rotary Flight. If you follow his instructions it will go a along way in helping you get in the air . http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html

Re: Belt-cp - What am I doing Wrong.....?

Sorry to hear about your crash....that hurts.

You should be learning to hover, and hover well, before you try to fly.

This is because if (when) you get into trouble while flying, being able to bring the heli into a hover will save you from disaster. You should be practicing to hover witn the tail in (pointing at you) first because then the heli responds in the direction of control input....ie. right goes right and so on.

Once you can do that and hold a hover for a full pack and keep in in a relatively close area and stady altitude, then you can start working on hovering "side in" and if you get mixed up, you can always bring the tail around to you and recover.

When you finally get pretty good at side in (both sides) then you can go on to the hard one....hovering nose in. By the time you get good at this, you should be a pretty decent pilot and then you are ready to graduate into SLOW forward flight, flying large circles, and figure eights.

I have been flying since March last year and I can now hover tail and side in and I still don't "fly" around.....I also have not had any MAJOR crashes. A couple of minor ones and I've gone thru lots of blades.

If you don't know about the RADD school of flight, you should look into it and follow those lessons. They move slow but you learn the reflexes needed and the method does work.

Re: Belt-cp - What am I doing Wrong.....?

I would use a Simulator as well, get the best you can afford....there is a free one on the net called FMS but you need to hook this up to a radio to 'fly'. You can buy this sim with its own radio from some retailers...its about 25 quid...and worth every penny.

Realflight is another...more like realfright when you see the price tag...there is 'phoenix' too...I have this one and its very good. But this needs a proper radio too.

Flying wise? like the others have said, take it easy and master the basics first...a controlled hover is quite hard to do...but master it you must.

This is where a good sim is useful because most small electric helis have a limited flight time and then you have to wait to charge the battery.

Re: Belt-cp - What am I doing Wrong.....?

I totally agree about the sim.

The problem is for the newest, latest, greatest.......you have to
have a really hot computer.

If you don't have the computer power for FS1 or the like, take a look
at Aerofly Professional. It uses YOUR transmitter and you have to buy an
interface cable but it's quite nice.

It's not as costly to crash with the sim.........good practice aid.
