Angry Piccolo Pro, NO POWER!!!! *pics*

Hey everyone, i am new to this forum, however i have been reading a lot of these threads and can see there are a lot of people here who konw what they are talking about.

Here is my problem.

I have a piccolo pro, CP electirc heli, and the darn thing can not produce enough power to get in the air. It is quite frustrateing as i payed $400 for the kit, and then have dumped close to $600 more in after market parts to try to make the thing work.

Here is what i have:

I have all the new titanium CNC rotor head/shaft upgrades
100t cnc main wheel, 8t motor gear
2000 mAh li battery
310 tuning motor

I have tryed playing with the collective settings many times.. i think they are set fine.

What are other people using for gear ratios????????

what the HELL is the deal with the motors from Ikarus??? it comes with the G-410 motor, but recomends you upgrade to the 310 ( a smaller motor!!!!!!) which one should i be using?????

I know my battery is big, its the biggest one they sell because i wanted some length to my flying time (wich is about 4 hours on the ground with the blades spinning.. maybee 30 seconds total in the air).. is this battery to heavy??? why would ikarus sell a battery that adds too much weight to the copter to fly??? i know it has to work.. its the same battery that they brag about some guy setting a world record with a 32 minuate flight or something.

Any advice would be great

here are some pictures of my bird. I think she is really pretty, but as of right now she is just a $1000 paper weight!!!

Hello nsheryka,

I can't say that the battery is doing you any favours at all just looking at it. I would say that that is an awfull large battery and a bit too heavy. The batteries used by the people around me that get good flight times are lithium Poli batteries that are smaller and probably a lot lighter than the brick you have attached to yours.
The next thing I notice looking at your pictures is that you have got an awfull lot of negative pitch to your blades. The last thing you should be looking for if you are haveing lift problems is negative pitch maybe -4 degrees at most while you set the heli up. looking at your pictures I would bet there is a lot more than that. make sure that at mid stick you have at least +5 degrees of pitch. this should give the heli lift at just above mid stick.

make sure that when you spin the rotor blades by hand they can turn freely and there is no binding or resistance. if you can feel any resistance that concerns you then try and find the cause. this could be slowing you rotor speed down. ( This is best done with the motor out )

Can you confirm the pitch that you have on both sides of 0

Regards
Darren,

Hello nsheryka

i believe you need the 410 motor if you run brushed motor But you also need the Pro board ive heard of burned picco-plus boards on the ikarus forum
Think brushless i have a model motors AC 1215/20 in mine and its a little hot with loads of power
i run 1200 3 cell Li-poly packs they are lighter and have a higher discharge rate

You might take a look here and do a search

here are a few pics of mine

Keep it in the air

By looking at the battery size, I think firstly, it's too heavy, and 2ndly, the CG would be wrong.

The CG of the heli MUST be at the main shaft. Otherwise, you will find it hard to control.

The CG is fine, balanced exactly on the shaft, but i will try first the pitch and then the 410 motor.. If they dont work i will look into a brushless.. but i cant emagine why Ikarus would sell me a battery that is too heavy for the helicopter to lift.

I dont even have a 5 channel radio yet.. so i dont plan on doing anything crazy.. i just want the damn thing to lift of the ground!

thanks for the help.. i will keep you posted if it works!

STOP STOP

Wait a minute, You say you dont have a five channel radio yet!!!!!
Please dont say that you are trying to fly that with a four (4) channel radio?
Because if you are then there is one massive problem to start with. You need a radio that can fly helis, The 4 channel that works with the fixed pitch piccolo will not work with the heli you have.
1 it wont give the revo mix for the tail.
2 it wont mix the pitch to the throttle, (this alone will prevent your heli lifting at all.)

If this is the case then the next question is how much experience do you have flying?
If you have not got any then I would leave the heli alone and get on a simulator first or you wont have a nice looking heli for long.

Please tell me that this is just me jumping to assumptions and that you have a heli radio that is 6channels minimium. But CP heli capable.
