Kyosho EP24 Caliber - Schweizer 300

Yup, this is my newest member to my fleet. I've been playing with electic planes (those 2 channel $30 bucks kind), and came across this.

It has flown a few times, but now my problem is battery. It's using a 8 cell packed into 2 rows of 4 cells. The height is very much like those AAA size battery. Flight time stated is 5 mins, but I'm getting about 2 mins of high hover, then the last 3 mins is like 2 feet off the ground.

I'm looking at changing it to Li-Po batteries, but I'm not too sure how the motor will take to it. The battery is 9.6V, and I cannot find any Li-Po of equivalent. I hear that 1 cell of Li-Po is 3.6V so, there's no way to get 9.6V. Will 10.4V burn up this engine?

Anyone knows?

Nice looking bird Colin

is that a 30 size heli and thats Fixed pitch

i'm running the 3 cell lipoly's on a 6 volt tail motor and having good luck with my ikarus piccolo's that came with a 9.6v pack

it's basicly 1 volt more just check the motor and be sure it's not getting to Hot might need a smaller pinion to keep motor cool

if you get a 1200mah pack 3 cell lipoly it will be 1/2 the weight

keep it in the air

Nope, that's about 12" long only. You can tell by the size of the transmitter. Not even close to a size 30. But the handling is quite good, considering it is a small electric.
Very twitchy, but still controllable.

BTW, welcome back! I really need to get these forums hot again. Now that I got a new toy, I should be yakking more here!
