radios

Two questions really
1) I just baught a walkera #39 and it comes with the walkera radio, now it didn't say ccpm but the ship is 3D capable, did say all the other stuff that the adds say, can you upgrade the transmitter (at later date) with out changing the flight pack? or do you change transmitter and reciever and reuse the rest?

2) what does CCPM mean and how important is it to someone who is only looking to learn to fly at this point? does it make the ship easier to fly or is it a function that you grow into as your flying skills increase? THANKS

Re: radios

Hello,
Which radio did it come with? The newer ones, like the 701,are better than the old ones and usually you change the rx and tx together.
Now whether or not you have ccpm, you can usually tell by the position of your servos. Are they mounted by the main shaft or are they farther away and hooked up with rods and levers?
Two servos hooked through rods/levers to the head is the "normal" setup and three servos hooked straight to the head means ccpm. Also the normal setup has a seperate servo that changes the pitch through a rod or lever.
Hope this helps,
Neil

Re: radios

I have not recieved the ship yet, hoping for this friday. I believe the transmitter is the 701. I thought that CCMP was something to do with the electronics not a upgraded layout for servos. I really hope that everything just works the way it should, with some of the comments a read about some of these kits I am a little worried that I should have spent more money, and picked up a kit with a futaba radio.

Re: radios

Hello Bob,

You and Huey are both right, CCPM stands for (if I remember right) Cyclic, Collective Pitch Mixing. And now that you know that, you can see that EVERY CP heli has this. The difference is that there are 2 types (e)CCPM means electronic pitch mixing and the servos are aranged much as Huey described (Although not always) . In this set up the mixing is done by the transmitter and all 3 servos move in unison to get you the collective pitch you want. This is the method that is usually described as CCPM. The other method is mechanical pitch mixing where there will be a pitch "seesaw" that sometimes contains the aileron servo. The whole seesaw assembly is moved by the pitch servo to effect collective pitch change (I tend to call this type of control HDE which I cant remember what it stands for).
For a beginner, there isnt any noticable difference between CCPM and HDE for somebody doing proper 3D there is more precise control with CCPM and less weight which makes it a desirable solution.

The transmitter that comes with the machine should be fine for learning (its being sold with the heli, youd expect it to work) but it will only fly that heli. The advange of the likes of a Futaba Tx is that you can have one transmitter for many machines. If you do upgrade the TX it SHOULD work with the existing RX in the Walkera as long as the RX is PPM and not PCM (because this is a proprietry code and its not recommended to mix manufacturers RX and TX with PCM). You dont need to worry about this though because the RX will be PPM.

Hope this helps... Azzy

Re: radios

Thanks Azzy,

I tried to explain it the best I could
Anyway I know from personal experiance that it will be very difficult to get an aftermarket tx to work with a walkera rx. The walkeras are positive shift and have different channel mapping from anyone else
I have used a walkera tx with a different rx, ok but just ok.

Re: radios

Thanks guys that does explain alot. I hope every thing will work just the way it should. I will worry about up grading with the exit ship. A kit is the best in my mind to start and learn, but after this one I will have to build up my own, its just the way I am. I amstarting this hobby to give myself a little get away time, to stop thinking about everyday, I can already see that it will become its own monster that I will probably be thinking about all day. Again thanks
