Upgraded drive gears for CX2?

After posting my thread about linkages, I had a similar thought about the drive gears. I've never seen an upgraded version of those. Does anyone know of an aluminum, or even carbon fiber upgrade for the two plastic drive gears?

Re: Upgraded drive gears for CX2?

Hey Benzee1, how's it going?

I'm still fighting this beast, trying to keep it stable. Haven't been able to take it outside yet to try the test you suggested. At first I was going to write this the long way, but when I saw this thread, I figured I'd keep it brief.

Question: Are your lower blades harder to turn (manually) than the upper? I mean *noticeably* harder? Examples:

- When landing safely (and killing power), the upper blade spins a few times and then stops. The lower bade stops after about 1 turn.
- When hovering (and you push the left joystick left or right), the heli spins zippy fast one way, but of if you push the joystick the other way, the heli spins VERRRYYY SLOOWWWLLLY the other way (I forget which direction...sorry)
- When manually turning the blades, the lower ones bind on *every* thread

Here's my theory about why this thing gave me so much headache from day one: The mesh for the lower gears is too tight. If you look at the gear teeth on the motor (versus the plastic gear), you'll see that they are much deeper. Therefore, when turning it by hand, each motor tooth is not just meshing with the plastic gear, but pressing so hard that it binds against it. This results in what others on the 'net have referred to as a "clicking" effect.

I read too about threading paper through with the screws loose, but it doesn't help, and I can't see how; the holes aren't oval, they're round.

Anyway, if I'm right, this would explain why I had to adjust everything on delivery, and also why I'm getting poor battery time (if not burning up the motor too).

Any tips?

Re: Upgraded drive gears for CX2?

Take out the shafts and spin each motor by hand. A few things could make that problem. Tight motor, Tight clearance with motor and gear or a bad bearing. I'd bet it one of the first two. If both motor turn the same by hand, then try a new outer shaft. The outer shafts come with a gear.

If you have the tight gear problem with a new gear, I would oblong one screw hole for that motor (just a tiny bit) to give a teensy bit more clearance.

My .02 worth.

Post your problem on helifreak.com. You'll have lots of answers in a fairly short time!
