Re: Strange Blade 400 problem?

Jim it does make you think carefully & react faster in a confined space. I look at it like this, if I can fly in my studio or should I say if I can hover in my studio, then all that expanse outside will seem like heaven

You are probably right but just be careful on your first forward flight attempt it will freak you out! But you will be fine. Keep her up and hover away!

Re: Strange Blade 400 problem?

My first outng with the blade 400 was about 1 week ago. I got her up, she drifted off quite a way & I had to go nose in & bring her back, tail was wagging like a excited puppie. then a quick about face to land & from about 2ft up she went over on her side, I corrected but my front leg on the right hand side had snapped on a heavy landing before & this just let the blades strike the deck. it was about 45 seconds of sheer terror!!!!

Re: Strange Blade 400 problem?

One thing you might try is put on a set of trex 450 tail blades they are a shade larger but definately helped the stability of my B400. Also Radix blades will make forward flight like it is on rails MS makes a nice set also the radix will be 320mm about $45.00 the MS are $39.00. The Trex 450 carbon fiber tail blades are $11.00 from AMainhobbies. I am currently putting the Trex450 tail gear and head gear (Alloy) on the blade 400 and upgrading the tail servo to JR digital servo. Yes Trex parts do fit the blade 400 just select ones from select versions of the trex450.

Re: Strange Blade 400 problem?

You really should start a new thread about what trex parts will fit on the blade & what difference have you noticed. There is a website devoted to blade repairs etc, very helpful guys as well.

Never done this without the training gear!!! By the way, the swash moves correctly, if I apply right it tilts right, apply back it tilts back.

Now I'm scared to lift off incase it toples over & then I have to be extra kind to the mrs to buy new parts

I tightened up the balls on my training gear so they don't roll so well. This especially helped the problem with the tail suddenly whipping while throttling up.

Re: Strange Blade 400 problem?

Macsgrafs, what you experienced is called "Translating Tendency". It is an effect of the tail rotor causing the aircraft to drift (the direction is dependent on the direction of travel for the main rotor blades, and the positioning of the tail rotor. All helicopters with a tail rotor experience this (tandem rotor aircraft have their own set of problems).

Most full size helicopters have their cyclic controls rigged to counteract the effects of Translating Tendency. I just adjust the cyclic roll trim on my B400, as the electronic mixing seems to not factor it in already. You could always change your swashplate rigging, but it's much easier to just beep your trim slightly to the right.

Hope this helps!
