Question CX2 3in1 Trouble?

I just received my replacement 3in1 unit for my CX2. The gyro went south causing uncontrollable rudder error. Mixer/ESC worked correctly. The gross loss of rudder from a bad gyro has me asking the following questions:

In theory shouldn’t it be possible to tune the CX2 to achieve a reasonable hover without a gyro? Both motors’ RPM should be close enough for a reasonable steady rudder. The uncontrollable rudder could not be tweaked using the trim and motor pot. Is there trouble with the ESC/Mixer causing RPM differences through the range?

Should the CX2 rudder be totally uncontrollable without the gyro? I would think the CX2 should fly reasonably well without a gyro and be solid with the gyro.

Is there a design problem that the gyro correction is masking? Is the gyro forced to work beyond its limits? Is tail-drift a result of excessive rudder error that the gyro can’t correct?

I can’t help but think that if the CX2 could be trimmed to fly reasonably well without the gyro that tail-drift would not exist with the gyro.

Tail-drift is probably not a sever concern for most, but it bugs me that I can’t tweak it out. I get frustrated if peak performance can not be achieved because a design problem hinders proper setup. I loose flying confidence if forced to make constant correction during flight. I think I may breakout my o-scope and tachometer to do a documented measurement test on my CX2 if it has not been done already.

Will a CP machine experience total rudder loss without a gyro?
