HELP!!! i'm loosing sleep:)

I could really use some help from someone more experiened in helicopters than I. I have had my Blade for a while now and I've had very little problems other than the tail motors going out due to heat(gone with the heat sink and compound.

The problem I'm having now is driving me crazy. For some reason, when I try to take off, the helicopter slides to the left, no matter how much right trim I give it. I've even tried adjusting the linkage to set the whole blade assembly more to the right to compensate. When I have the copter in my hand and give it throttle, I can feel it trying to lean to the left and roll over.

Also, there is plenty of lift to get off the ground, but if I move the stick to the right to compensate for the left sliding, the helicopter drops drastically. If I'm 3 or 4 inches off the ground and move the stick a bit to the right, it drops instantly to the ground and even compresses the training gear(it's almost pushing the helicopter down).

I've checked everything I can think of, and nothing seems to help the problem. It seems to be ballanced as much as I can tell. I have spent hours checking everything with the motors disconnected and throttle at full and partial, but I can't see where anything isn't working the way it should. If anyone has any information that might help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Is it possbile that my reciever/speed control/gyro assembly has failed??

(I'm sorry for the length of the post, but I like to give as much information about a problem as possible.)

Re: HELP!!! i'm loosing sleep:)

IMO, if you're hovering only 2 to 3 inches off the ground then your biggest problem is more than likely rotor wash... basically turbulence under the copter. This causes the copter to want to skate across the ground.

Before you make any more adjustments, try to hover at least 18 to 24 inches off the ground. The copter should calm down quite a bit. When I first started flying my BCP I had the same problems you are describing, and I thought there was something wrong with the copter. It just seemed uncontrollable. I finally got up enough courage to hover at higher altitudes and the copter stabilized.

Also, keep in mind that this copter will not fly itself. You will have to constantly make slight imputs to hold a hover. And if you fly outdoors the wind can play a big role in how you copter handles.

Good Luck!!!

Re: HELP!!! i'm loosing sleep:)

I don't think that it is just rotor wash... I've flown the heli a total of 6 or 7 hours now, and haven't experienced anything like this. Basically, it slides to the left, and when I give it a tiny bit of right cyclic, the thing looses almost all lift instantly. it doesn't do it with left, forward, or back, just right. I've checked and doublechecked the movement of all of the servos and everything seems fine when the blades aren't moving. I'm not sure what would cause it to show up only when the blades are spinning. I'm just lost at this point.

Re: HELP!!! i'm loosing sleep:)

The heli moves left because the tail rotor is blowing it that direction. When flying, you may notice that the heli will lean right to compensate. you have to fly through it until you get out of ground effect.

also, with clockwise rotors and especially on micros, you will loose lift when moving ail/cyclic right. Thats the retreating blade side and you need to bump up pitch to keep altitude.

Both of these facts are normal and would be very noticable if flying under 2'.

I'm assuming that after all the setup hours you say you've spent.....that your heli is ballanced, the swash plate is level with the frame, the paddles are parrallel to the swash, the blades are tracked....etc...etc

This bird will not hover itself....your going to have to fly it all the time just to keep it in a hover...especially to hover.

Re: HELP!!! i'm loosing sleep:)

Well after trying numerous times to fly it the way it was, I finally crashed hard and broke the air frame. I decided to take my time and check each component out. Turns out one of the servos had a few teeth missing(i'm almost completly sure that it didn't happen in the wreck. I think this was causing the heli to drop like it was. I shouldn't say it just lost lift, it would drop very very suddenly and rapidly. Now, I've replaced the servo and all damaged components and it's almost all back together, but when checking the servos I've found a new problem... all of the servos work the wrong direction... when I give throttle up, all three servos go up and not down. when I give it left cyclic, the swash plate leans left not right... forward cyclic leans the swash plate forward not back etc... The main and tial motors spin the correct way, and it arms at 0 throttle, and doesn't at 100... all reversing switches on the transmitter are set right and the servos are in the right positions on the reciever... I always find the strange problems.... I think that the 4 in one unit is bad now for some strange reason.... I can't think of any other reason for this.

Your swash is responding correct left cyclic the swash = left, right = right forward = forward, back = back.

Re: HELP!!! i'm loosing sleep:)

ok, sorry, I wrote it wrong(not in front of the heli when I was typing) It is the oposite then... I've checked with another blade and it was the oposite of what the correctly flying blade does. for sure though the servos go up as you give it more throttle. that pitches the blades the wrong way...

Re: HELP!!! i'm loosing sleep:)

If they respond backwards, just reverse it on the transmitter. My rc/car was like that when I put everything together. Turn right on the transmitter and the car would go left. Just reverse the switch on the transmitter.
