Blade CP Pitch Adjustments

This is probably a question that has been asked before but I have not seen anywhere that it is answered so I (dumb) can make sense of it. A few questions to those more educated than myself..all I want to do is hover and some forward and backward flight (no 3d). My radio is a futaba 9ch so i have all the adjustments necessary but I am totally lost.

1- I have heard that the pitch settings for the balde and a new flier should be about -2 to +9, is this correct? (Flat blades stock motor no Lipos).

2- My LHS (mostly heli flyers) says that the pitch should be around 0 at mid stick, if that is the case how does one set that up. It would seem that if you wanted 0 at mid stick you have to take what you can get at full throttle and at idle, is this correct? If I adjust it for -2 at idle then the full throttle goes whacky or so it seems.

3- I bought a pitch gage and checked the pitch (per the instructions) and it is way off from what it says it should be.

4- If I am at -2 at idle and +18 at full throttle how do i bring the +18 down without changing the -2? Is this a radio adjustment or a swashplate/rotor adjustment???????

I guess bottom line is this, can anyone help me or direct me to a web site/book etc where I can learn this for myself. Please any help would be appreceiated.

Brian

Re: Blade CP Pitch Adjustments

If you're just starting out and want to hover, try adjusting the pitch for +2 at no-throttle. This is accomplished by turning the pitch control links outwards. I started mine at 22mm overall length and then adjusted the blades for good tracking afterward. This technique will allow you to hover at a slightly lower head speed and generate more lift at the lower speed. When you are happy with hovering and are ready to advance, simple agjust the pitch control linkages to a more appropriate pitch range. Hope this helps. Happy Flying!!

Brian,

I don't know how you are adjusting pitch. In normal mode (not idle-up) you should have 0 to +10 from closed to full throttle (motors disconnected and power on). In idle-up it should be -10 to +10. I had to move mine up from 0 to +2 like rockymag says (that would have to be in normal mode for startup) but I don't understand how you even get the +18. I can't see how you could get a 20 degree range in normal mode (which I assume you are using). If you are adjusting in idle-up mode, you should set for -10 at 0 throttle and +10 for full throttle.

My Blade has the following thread counts exposed (general info):
Both rear servos about 5 turns
Front Servo about 12 turns
Both Flybar links about 4 turns
Of course these can vary but about right.

Hope this helps!

Re: Blade CP Pitch Adjustments

Last response was in Nov'05. Anyhow I'd thought I post this info here. These are the default pitch settings when I took the heli out of the box, charged the batteries and checked the pitch with the align pitch gauge.

I am getting mixed information and wanted to see what you folks here had to say about these settings. Keep in mind the settings has not been changed and the settings are with the flat blades.

Normal mode:
throttle 0% pitch is 6+
throttle 50% pitch is 9+
throttle 100% pitch is 12+

Idle up mode:
throttle 0% pitch is -10
throttle 50% pitch is +3
throttle 100% pitch is +12

Re: Blade CP Pitch Adjustments

I doesn't seem like your pitch gage is working on flat bottom blades right....You should never get a +6 with throttle all the way down in Normal mode......Some pitch gage center them self's wrong when using flat bottom blades... Make sure your using it right....Your idle up mode looks about right.
Remember the fly bar need to be level. Oh these helicopter with out metal heads are not very tight.. So you can twist the main blade some. When taking a pitch setting I will hold up the trailing edge of my blade with my hand that's how the air will try and hold them..

I see what you mean. However, the measurements for both normal and idle up was done at the same time without moving the gauge. This setup is also stock. Can you tell me what pitch the blade should be in 0 throttle normal mode? Also, how far in should the gauge be positioned? The measurement was done with the gauge about 1 inch in from the tip and also half way into the blade.

Re: Blade CP Pitch Adjustments

On other forums, +10 at 100% is about the max people are using. I don't have a pitch gauge, but just eyeballing it with a protractor, probably +2-3 at 50% in normal mode seems ideal for me with the flat bottom blades.
