Muffler upgrade

Hey guys just upgraded my stock hawk pro muffler with silent power, Question is should i have to adjust the Os 37 engine? I seems to be running a little leaner, The muffler gets really hot compared to the stock one and the engine only a little warmer. The muffler is a lot quiter and sounds great.

Re: Muffler upgrade

As long as there is some oil residue coming out you should be ok...I would touch the backplate and see if this is warm...warm is ok...you should be able to keep your finger there anyway.

The muffler is probably a different layout or something which is why it might get a bit hotter than you are used to.

Talking Re: Muffler upgrade

Thanks Rob, Ran some test today and discovered i needed to richen the highspeed needle half a turn. At 2 turns was in a hover and nailed the throttle it went almost nowhere, At 1 turn in a hover(and was where it was with the stock muffler) the rpm would race the head speed. A 1 and a half in a hover nailed the throttle and it launched up with no noticable change in rpm or headspeed. Should get my replacement parts for my full metal head on tuesday so i can put it back on. I wonder if i can purchase a longer tail boom to go with my 600mm blades. Something from century 50 size heli should fit the hawk pro? Im finding out its not just one upgrade that makes any differance to the performance of the hawk its a lot of little things together as a package thats makes the differance.

Re: Muffler upgrade

Yes a longer boom is a good idea, the 50 size is probably the same diameter.

The Hawk is not a precision machine, the Pro version is about the best you will get of that range in 30 size. Its good if the servo control rods are all supported by bearings etc. But slop and play is no bad thing, I found the Hawk I had flew well enough..it was a tough machine.

I almost bought a Falcon 50, thats a nice looking heli....but nitro is expensive..thats why I went petrol instead.

Its up to you about upgrades, personally its only worth it if you intend flying that bird a long time...nothing wrong with that. I intend to keep the Predator a long time....might upgrade one day to Turbine...but this is only if I burn enough petrol to make it worthwhile.

Rob
