| Can't start My Toki Engine Hi, I'm having problems starting my Toki engine. It started once for about 5 seconds and has'nt started again since. I took the heli to a local hobby shop and had a few folks look at it. It apears the engine floods very easy and burns out the glow plug. They suggested I add a second tak, one which would feed the primary. I don't claim to know a lot, but I do know internal combustion engines, and I can't seem to use any of this knowledge to get the heli to light over. any help will be greatly appreciated. I followed the manual for the engine with the best understanding I could mustar and still no possitive results. I realize I should not get discorraged, however I can seem to shake it. Greg ![]() |

| Re: Can't start My Toki Engine Hi Greg, sounds like too much fuel is getting in.....this is possible on the 'low end' needle. I would try this: screw the idle or low end needle all the way in....be gentle though. Back the same needle out about 1 turn. screw the main needle all the way in, back it out 1 turn. Try starting the engine.....it sounds like the low needle is too far out...and too much fuel is getting in. A trick you can do is this.... remove the carb....clean it out...attach some fuel line to the fuel nipple.....now screw the low needle in...be gentle as before.....now place the fuel line in your mouth.....apply pressure and slowly screw the low needle out.....listen carefully to the carb....the throttle barrel must be rotated to its idle position....as soon as you can hear a 'hiss' ie air coming through the fuel system then stop adjusting.....the low needle is about right. Either way, the low end is probably too rich.......but do place the main needle out at 1 turn.....you may need more.....but do attach some head loaders....its easier that way....and you cant fly and risk the engine quitting either. Once the engine is running do a pinch test...while idling...pinch the fuel line about 4 to 5 cms back from the carb.....after 2 to 3 seconds the engine should rev up then start to die out...let go and the engine should still run. Upon opening the throttle, the low needle has some influence up to the hovering point...after that its mainly the main needle.....at full power if the engine dies out then carefully richen the main needle...if its still dies then try backing off the needle.....it could be too rich. Anyway....try with minimum settings...and work your way up. Do be patient though......its very frustrating at times.....I am the same...I have a good understanding of engines...of all types.....but model nitro engines can be annoying to sort out.....having a crap booklet with your engine doesnt help either......hope the above helps. Do write and let me know.:-) Rob A second or header tank will fix nothing.....they are only for aerobatics.....I can fly inverted using a normal tank...the clunk takes care of the fuel delivery. |

| Re: Can't start My Toki Engine Its usually carb related.....OS are a good make of engine right? Toki are quite new? I have an OS 32 in my Hawk....it was a pain trying to get the right mixture.....fuel tank foams otherwise...something to do with being too rich. Backplate of the engine gets hot too.....no matter what I do with pitch and throttle curves and carb mixture....but it seems to keep going. I have just got a copy of RC Helicopter World....interesting point in there about the Toki 40......it was combined with a Hawk Pro review....the author mentions 4 turns out on the main needle......try it No mention was made of the idle/low needle. OS had a good little manual with the 32 engine......sounds like Toki is not so user freindly in that aspect... 4 turns out is fine for the main needle....I just wonder what the low end should be....after all thats the all important mixture from idle to hover etc. Have you tried getting in touch with the suppliers or agents for Toki? they surely must have information? | Re: Can't start My Toki Engine Hi All, I had fears when I got the Raven that starting the OS 46 FXH was going to be a pain. You can't even see the carb... I have never had a problem starting it. If it is accidently on full throttle well it starts and wow how that clutch dust stinks! Jim ![]() |
