hawk sport?

hello to everyone out there, ive got a century hawk sport and have had it for a year or so. noticed there was only one thead for this topic, so i fugured i would try to see what other people think of this bird and what setups work the best with it.
mine seems to be underpowered with an os32 and stock pipe. the setup is for beginners,ie no idle up or throttle hold yet.can hover and fly around alright just doesnt have the lift id like to see. set blade pitch at +9 full throttle, about+2 at half and 0 at idle.i had a local hobbie shop help me set it up when i bought it because i had no idea at the time how to do any of this , even with the manual.the original setup is what is stil in use.
so i gues what i am trying to ask is, can anyone give me a pitch and thottle curve that will suit this heli a little better. i also run it with a 9cap so i have most every option available to me set up wise.
i bought a blade cp and have been practicing with it. mostly because its more convenient but i also heard that they were a little harder to fly due to there size. i dont have a problem with flying it though. thats why i think i might not have the hawk quite set up right , any thoughts would be helpful.
thanks GASMECH

Re: hawk sport?

Hi GASMECH,

The setup that you mentioned sounds okay to me. If you go any higher on
the positive pitch on full throttle, the engine will bog even more. By
the way, the OS .32 is not really that great in handling demanding
moves. The engine is just too tiny.

But you know what…? You might be able to squeeze out more power if you
just lean out the engine, if it’s ready… When you lean out the engine
you will notice the helicopter respond quicker.

You might want to give the lean out a try if you haven’t done so. Well,
good luck and happy flying.

Re: hawk sport?

Hey Vcampos;
I Have Leaned And Richened, Increased And Decreased Pitch And Even Played Around With My Curves In The Radio. It Seems To Fly The Best At This Max Pitch.
Do You Have A Recomendation For A Motor Upgrade? 40 Size Maybee, Not Sure How Big This Bird Will Allow.
Thanks Again- Gasmech

Re: hawk sport?

Hi GasMech,

Look into the Toki .40. Century was bundling this engine with one of their
rc helis, not sure which heli. But it should fit nicely on the Hawk, maybe
just a few alterations like trimming the fan shroud...

Re: hawk sport?

Hi,
Noticed the lack of hawk sport posts as well so though I'd add to this one.

Just need some opinions of the chopper as I have my eye on a hawk sport kit thats a good price in a model shop near me (probably cheaper as hasnt the pro version replaced the sport?) I currently fly an electric heli (walkera #36) as I can fly this in the backyard & as it was my first heli I wanted something cheap incase I didnt like it.Needless to say I'm now hooked & lookin for a second heli.
So any pitfalls of owning a hawk sport?

Re: hawk sport?

hey ghostcav;
glad to see some intrest in the sport. ive been flying one for about a year now.its been a pretty good heli as far as i can tell. if i was going to buy one right now it would be a hawk pro. this is basically a sport with the upgrades that you would want to do anyhow,ie. 47 bearings, tail boom mounted rudder control.the hawk isnt being made any more but parts are available still, but the pro is the same price that i paid for my sport with out all the upgrades. pro is a better deal,199.99 from cetury.
if you get one though, dont go with the os 32 you will be disapointed at the lack of power.maybee the os 37sz-h or the toki 40 that century sells. thats the only ***** about this heli is the power and thats not the helis fault.this was the bird i learned on, and by myself i might add because know one around here close flies helis

Re: hawk sport?

Hi guys...I am new to this site ....I am a member of another site which is good but this one is better in terms of the heli I fly.

My Sport is my second heli....its been great so far.....leaning the OS 32 might help but I have left mine rich....I am worried about cooking the engine otherwise.....the OS 32 is just not powerful enough...the OS 37 should be no problem if you want to fit one.

The actual heli is quite tough, is cheap to repair and seems ok for learning and going on towards aerobatics......I dont like the fuel tanks location....some isolation from the frames would be a better idea...I refitted my tank...made a plate and fitted my tank on its side...within the frames with the fuel feed/vent fitting on the top corner facing the tail..
