Broke my Predator today

Doing a gyro sort out today...swung the heli around and boom!!!

Poor thing was on its side with broken blades and its battery pack got flung out too

not too much damage really....though a new boom, blades, blade grips, feathering shaft (for main AND tail rotor) are needed.

Pain in the arse really....got to order them which means no flying

sooooooo.....lesson learned? when doing gyro adjustments make sure to NOT swing the heli around towards you....keep it tail in...do your left and right inputs and if they are not great then land and adjust.

Almost felt like putting it on ebay but guess no one wants a bent up heli

Sorry to hear that.

Good tips though. I'll need to be doing Gyro adjustment myself soon, and the weather's looking good for the weekend

Re: Broke my Predator today

Sorry to hear your heli bit the dust mate but if it makes you feel better my T rex also bit the big one yesterday afternoon. thing that gets me is the crystal is the probable cause and it was only 4inches off the deck. I got the video camera on the heli and you can see the glitch in the heli whilst it was up highish. I brought it down and hovered close to the floor ready to hit the hold switch. she hovered fine so I sent it up and after a while I got this twisted gut feeling. so I went to land the Rex. it was just about 4 inches when I got this big glitch and it just threw itself into the ground.
lots of damage as I had no time to react before the blades hit and all the damage is in the rotor head.
basically all that could bend did, and all parts in the head broke. best thing is the repair cost is just above the cost of a set of blades from my other heli's. So it aint going to break the bank.

Re: Broke my Predator today

Just about to get on the phone and order some more bits....trouble with big helis is the inertia involved in a crunch....need a stockpile of parts really.

Sorry to hear about the Rex....they really are lovely little helis....I sometimes wonder if I made a mistake in getting the predator because its worth a handful of Rexs.....but then this gasser is well behaved otherwise....its impressive on the ground....more so when its flying.

My ultimate cause was pilot error...pure and simple.

Glitches are horrible things.....can be a bit of a mystery.

Thats the thing with rc helis....theres a lot going on with the radio system....esc if you fly electric...all sorts of things that can go wrong.
