| New member with a V4 Just wanted to say "Hello" to all you regulars and other newbies. I have been flying a Blade CX for one year but got a Hummingbird V4 for Christmas and all I can say is "WoW"! My first day out (Sunday) was a series of liftoffs and controlled crashes. Seems like after liftoff the bird would scoot off in one direction or another then slide off towards the ground. I guess I was overcontrolling and just couldn't get a good feel. After some serious damage (rear boom) I had to quit for the day - feeling disheartened. The CX was such a fun thing. Anyway, yesterday after learning how to disassemble, replace and reassemble the new parts (bless my two sons, they had made sure that I had plenty of crash repair kits and spare parts) I headed out to the side yard and tried a new strategy. I decided to pop the bird up about 2 to 3 feet off the ground and quickly ease it gently back down noting which direction it was headed after liftoff. Then I made small trim adjustments to counter the movements and repeated this procedure 4 or five times. Then lo and behold, I lifted off again and the bird just floated with only a very slow drift. It was so great watching it just floating that I almost let it drift into the side of my house so I had to drop it down I repeated this process several more times making small corrections (overcontrolled of course) untill the battery said "Enough allready". It was starting to get dark by now so I decided to call it a GOOD Day and brought my undamaged bird in for a good rest. Thanks for taking the time to listen to a happy (so far) new member! |

| Re: New member with a V4 By the way, Where are all you regulars. Looks like this is a dead post. I wish there was a way to get the word out to more "Bird" flyers so we could swap info and learn more about the "Bird". Also, no new activity on my end yet. It's been a little wet and breezy at times so I'll wait for near perfect outside conditions for my next self instructions. ![]() |

| Re: New member with a V4 jjfly, I just got the V4 in December and am still learning how to fly. Its my first heli. I'm using the FMS simulator to get the jist of the controls. So far my flights are some bunny hops in the driveway. I'm still at the point where I need to know how to control the heli and not over correct before I start making adjustments. What's nice about this hobby is there is something to look forward to. Learning to fly has a good learning curve and I'm not even thinking 3d. The heli also has lots of upgrade available to increase it's performance and look. Good luck. See you in the forums. Walt |

| Re: New member with a V4 Hi Walt, Thanks for checking in, and good luck with your new V4 Hummingbird. I am sure we will be soon hovering our birds like pros and learning to make nice smooth corrections to hold steady. (At least that's what I am shooting for)! Once I can do that, then I'll be ready for a little moving around stuff. Again, good luck with your machine and keep in touch. Joe |

| Re: New member with a V4 Hey Guys, sorry I didn't see this thread sooner. I got a V4 myself back in September. First foray into helicopters at all, but I really like the bird. I went through the same set up sequence with mine and it's now pretty stable. Keep it low and slow and you'll find that you can begin to anticipate what the bird is going to do, thereby applying "correction" before the bird wanders off. Lots of small inputs is what it takes. Overall it's a nice heli, as long as it's dead calm outside. A little breeze will sharpen your skills, but much more than that and it becomes unflyable. Unfortunate downside of Fixed Pitch. Overall a good heli - parts are cheap and available, well designed and the electrics are reliable.

Hopping around isn't a bad way to go. When I first started with it, I put on the training gear and drove around the parking lot getting used to what input to make when I wanted it to turn left with the nose in, etc. Overall it's a nice heli, as long as it's dead calm outside. | ok maybe noone has this heli any more and i can understand why?? i have a trex and my gosh its 100 times easier to fly than this hummingbird v4. i have tried everything to get it right but i cant get the tail rotor to do right..i have full tail rotor trim in it and it still want to yaw to the left. i put another tail rotor motor on it and still the same thing. i dont have a manual on the gyro system that came with it so im lost there.. getting time to put it back in closet and not even fool with it anymore. just take it as a lost and be down with it ![]() ![]() |
