Can a good RC pilot fly a Real one? I curious about how RC is close to realitly. So let say there is a very experience RC pilot. Can this guy jump in a real Heli and fly without a course? Well, except telling him what are the controls. If he has read all the regulations. Sorry if I ask a dumb question. But as I said, I’m curious. Cheers, C. http://pages.videotron.com/vette747/

| Re: Can a good RC pilot fly a Real one? I am fortunate to be able to answer this one. If your asking can a rc pilot jump into a heli and fly it without having any lessons Nope,If your asking can one get in and bump around a bit and slowly get used to the different inputs and the reaction response then yes you can. But again you wont fly it. Bump and slide yes NOT fly. I was lucky enough to be in the army and working closely with the aac, I got the chance to feel the heli light and let me say that even though I knew what the controls did I could not react with the finness that the Real heli pilots have developed. Just as a matter of interest I have also had real heli pilots tell me that even though the control inputs do the same thing with RC heli's, They find the rc helis a lot harder to fly and they need lessons to do this Hobby. Weird this aint it. I do beleive that we would learn faster than a normal jo from the street though.

Re: Can a good RC pilot fly a Real one? Thanks for the reply. This is good to see that the good RC pilot could bump and slide. This is also strange that the real pilot needs training to fly a small one. But I think it has something to see with the orientation and the fact that it is difficult to get the feeling (i.e. G Force) when you are not in the real machine. This is the main problem I have when I drive my RC cars as oppose that when I drive my real cars.

Re: Can a good RC pilot fly a Real one? If I can throw my two cents in, an R/C helicopter is being run off of a handheld transmitter with twin sticks. A real helicopter depending on the type of helicopter, use pedals and a single stick with twist for throttle etc. The physics used for flying would be the same, but the controls would be foreign.

Re: Can a good RC pilot fly a Real one? I can attest to the model Vs. real deal...Having flown HR2s' and small Bell's before getting into the CH53 program. the Model is a bit more taxing because of the fact you can't "feel" the inputs...you are relying on sight and experience with a delay factor in the control inputs. "Can a good RC pilot fly a real one?" My simple answer..No. Can you get into serious trouble quickly?..Yessss! Jim S.

Re: Can a good RC pilot fly a Real one? Interesting thread, I just found this forum yesterday. I flew commercially (fixed wing) for 24 years before I had to retire due to medical reasons. I did solo (I remember it being difficult) a Bell 47 over 20 years ago, got about 10 hours and that was it, could not afford to keep going. RC’s are not like the big aircraft and the big aircraft are not like the RC’s. I always wanted a RC airplane and finally got one a few years ago but just kept crashing the thing so I gave it up. Then a few months ago I saw those airhogs at walmart for $20 and could not resist, what a hoot!! Then I got there bigger one that has twin rotors on each side and a few weeks ago a walkera 22e that I have not crashed, yet,,,,go figer? I could fly fix wing better than helicopters, but with the RC’s I can fly the helicopters better than the fix wing?? Anyway, I am really enjoying this new hobby of mine.
