Re: creeping tail servo Help

With the gasser, I crashed it a while back...its rebuilt and ready to test fly but I just dont want it costing an ar and a leg in repair bills again....I realise the risks and so on

Like you I reckon the Trex size is handy, I have an XL HDE version of the 450. I must say that this size is useful and easy to look after...and its quiet....very useful for where I work...I can sneak out and go fly!!!

In my spare time I work on plumbing and heating, chews up a lot of time but I enjoy it plus I get to save some cash.

Next year I will focus a bit more on the flying, I love it and have gotten sidetracked a little.

I might get the gasser back in the air, might well sort out an autopilot for it...one of those Robbe Helicommand units....I crashed last time due to getting muddled...helis paint scheme didnt help either

Re: creeping tail servo Help

I have a FMA copilot but haven't installed it on anything yet. The Helicomand is rather pricey but would be nice.
I'm looking at 500 size helis but I just bought another 450 clone from Xheli. They had a sale for $59 for the kit!

Re: creeping tail servo Help

59 smackers for a kit? holy moly....you lucky thing

I do like the 450 size, real pocket rockets.

One of my work buddies has a 450 SE V2 trex and its just sweet. I am slowly upgrading mine but need to buy more battery packs plus a charger or two.

I hear that the Robbe units are fiddly to set up, but for me the cost of one unit equals the cost of ONE crash

I can accept a failure if its beyond my control, I just hate dumb thumbing into the dirt.

Re: creeping tail servo Help

Yeah I know what you mean. I almost planted my Comet the other evening when I lost it in a dark background. If it hadn't been for the chrome stickers that I had just installed on top of my blades I wouldn't have regained orientation in time. This is now a standard modification on all of my helis!

Re: creeping tail servo Help

Sounds like a neat idea, why didnt I think of that. Its strange how the mind suddenly clicks when you are in trouble...and you make the correct moves to get orientation...but miss that 'cue' and you are in big trouble.

I was flying the gasser pretty much every day, rain....snow...hail it didnt matter. My hands used to get frozen

The Robbe units are fiddly in that if you are in eCCPM mode on the heli then you have to reset the radio to CCPM...the robbe makes the connections for eCCPM. Not sure how this works but might well find out soon
The clever thing has some gear on it to hold the helis position too...anywhere up to 3mtrs altitude.

One unit you can get is super expensive and lets the heli fly circuits on its own....will even put the heli down gently if it looses radio contact.

I was looking at some targe drones recently, fitted with similar gear....they are used for missile practice...quite big things.

Re: creeping tail servo Help

We"ve hijacked this thread but good! Sorry Army1chopper I hope that we helped with your problem.
Hawkman, That Robbe unit sounds great. It would be wonderful for camera work. The FMA unit that I have won't work with eccpm so I think that I am going to install it on my old Cobra to make it steady and to protect it from Dumbthumb the pilot!

Re: creeping tail servo Help

Ha ha,,,old Dumbthumb

I am far from over with RC helis, the crashes do cost for sure...but hour for hour and pond for pound I have had much more success with helis in terms of flight hours and incidents.

I have written off a few planes

Take at look at Heliguy.com thats where I found the super duper expensive auto pilot...along with its more cheaper brethren

I enjoy chatting with you Mr Baby Huey, yes sorry Army1chopper...but dont hesitate to join in sometime.

Email me sometime on robwilkinson@yahoo.co.fk

I can share pictures etc then, a lot more easily than uploading to the site.
