401 gyro and servo not centering

I am building my 1St SE and Have a JR 6102 radio with ?Futaba 401 gyro and Hitec 65 servos.

When I plug the TR servo into the rec it works fine, when I plug in the gyro and the servo into the gyro, the servo no longer centers.

Yes the light (RED) blinks fast then turns solid.

If I give it left stick the servo moves left but only comes back a little ways, if I give it right stick the servo goes right but only comes back a little ways.

If I wiggle the tail boom left and right the gyro move the servo both ways just fine.

What am i missing?

TIA

Bob

Re: 401 gyro and servo not centering

You are missing nothing it's normal when servo is in heading hold mode avcs led solid it never centers and if you fly you have a rock solid tail. For ajustment you use normal mode led blinking so that the servo centers.

Re: 401 gyro and servo not centering

Hi,

Make sure you set up your gyro in non heading hold first.
Make sure that all trims and sub-trims are at 0 and end points at 100 or default.
Set the servo horn to centre and as i did when i used them set the blades at 0 degrees of pitch.

You will need to set the limits on the gyro if the servo horn was set at center in normal mode and not in the transmitter. Do not use rudder trim when flying, this may disarm heading hold.

Assuming that you have the gyro and servo working correctly ,
you have to set the gyro in the transmitter as well as the gyro itself.

these can be set end points or in the gyro function which will activate the avcs mode.

hope this helps

Re: 401 gyro and servo not centering

I would check the instructions but make sure to set the end points to maximum....then carefully adjust the trimmer pot on the gyro itself....by gently pushing the rudder stick left/right....you dial the trimmer pot to set the endpoints....using the endpoint adjustment on the radio will slow the rudder response....or gyro response...either way its not good....I broke my heli because of this.

The 401 gyro is good gear....keeps the tail nicely in position.

Make sure the gyro mode is ON on the radio....I overlooked this and puzzled as to why my gyro gain seemed too high....the gain is set through the radio...both gains in fact.

Another problem I had,
The 401 was within one inch of the Battery service wire, ANY high amperage wire within two inches of the 401 will send lines of magnetic waves into the 401's elects, causing chaos and ruin.
