jerky startup

I just bought a T-Rex xl. Someone had already assembled it. I then bought a JR xp6102 tx. When I start the motor the blade lurches to a start instead of a nice smooth startup. Someone told me I could adjust the align 35a esc to start the motor slower. I don't have the manual for the esc but went onto the net and downloaded instructions but I do not see anything about making the motor start up slower.

Motor "JustGoFly - 450TH Brushless
Esc - Align 35A
Gyro GY401
Radio - JR XP6102

I could use some help, please

Re: jerky startup

I believe the starting mode that you are looking for is called "soft start."

Re: jerky startup

It is the 4th option and must be set to 2 beeps and it's called Helicopter 1 (soft start)(4-2) be carefull because with 3 beeps you enter helicopter 2 which is governor mode .

Re: jerky startup

Thanks, but from what I have been able to find out the esc I have doesn't have the soft start option.

There are only 3 setup options, then it does a review of what was entered.

Thanks for you help!

Re: jerky startup

I face the same problem of jerky startup. My heli rotates whenever it was startup. How do you set a soft start for the align 35A esc. That is the 4-2 beep?

I also had a problem of throttle cut for 2 minutes flying. Not sure if the batteries problem or esc. The batteries get very hot and the heli could not lift up after the 2 mins flying even it was at the high stick. I tried changing batteries but had the same problem

My friend told me its the build in BEC that cause the problem.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Cool Re: jerky startup

First check that gear mesh or belt tension is not too tight.Check also that you are not using too big a pinion gear-an 8 or 9 tooth pinion puts less strain on the motor but also reduces head speed.Something is straining the motor causing more amps to be drawn from the battery and making it hot.

Re: Short flying time

Thanks for your advise.

I manage to reduce my 13T pinion to 11T pinion. I'm unable to find the 8T or 9T pinion here with a 3.17 shaft.

Mesh gear's tension were right

The head speed seem to be stable but the battery still run out hot in 2 mins.

Should I tryout with a new battery?

Thanks

Cool Re: jerky startup

You could also have a servo that is binding or going bad and drawing too much juice-check for hot servo and see if all servos have full travel and move freely and see if any linkages are binding.Something is drawing too much juice causing high discharge rate and heating battery. If it was the motor, the motor would be getting hot and ESC would heat up.You could disconnect servos from RX and see if battery still gets hot just running motor-if not, then I would suspect bad servo.
