Re: hover hight?

HA! I like the comments about your moms outlook on your new hobby/addiction! I am over 30 years old and have a wife and child and my mom still gives me a hard time about "playing with helicopters!" Guess what, I got over and and now just get a good laugh whenever she says something. Plus, my dad bought a BCX2 to "play" with me as well

Anyway, I have a BCX2 and a TREX 450SE. That REX sure is great and man, I have learned so much just putting the thing together and making periodic repairs.

Now, my dad bought me the RealFlight G4 for Christmas and I have spent some time practicing (limited time since I have a family to take care of) but it has helped me out immensely! It was after reading all the posts on this site that lead me to get one and everyones comments about how much it helps are spot on. I am certain that the cost of the sim (though I didn't pay for it) were way less than the cost of the parts I would have needed in repairs if I wasn't able to practice on the sim.

So, good luck, stick with it, and don't let mom get you down!

Cheers!

Re: hover hight?

ok. I think i am definably, most likely, fairly sure that i am getting a sim now . Most likely realflight G4 because i haven't heard of any complaints of it. It may cost me $200. But i will have to pay that in repairs anyways. Heck i might even get my father to pitch in on the cost because unlike my mother, he likes hobby things and encourages me to keep at it.

Update: i flew it today and got it to hover in one spot (ie moving maybe an inch) for about 4 seconds at about 2 1/2 feet . I think that i will bring it to the park in a few batteries because my thinking is that i might do better in an open space, then one which has a fence or obstacle about 10 feet away.

I also would like to say thank you everybody for being the, number one most helpful forums for anything.

Re: hover hight?

I have Trex 450 XL...sure punches a hole through the air...what a great little heli...seriously great fun.

As for sims....even the most basic sim will help you. I have used Reflex XTR before...good sim...very good.

I have used Realflight before, its good...I didnt like the graphics much though.

I use 'Phoenix' which is a fairly new sim...I still like Reflex though.

Re: hover hight?

I have 3.5 and its great, Once i also figured out how to set up each heli with D/R and expo it flyes great like my heli. You might consider some D/R and expo on your heli to tame it down a little, helps it hover in a tighter area, Something like 80% on D/R and 20% on expo on everything except throttle and rudder.

Re: hover hight?

I too have only been flying a short time. I found the sim to be a great place to learn. The best part is you will get to a point where you do not have to think about the reaction needed to correct the bird.By that I mean it will be a natural reaction. As for the D/R and expo on your heli to tame it down that is a must!

Re: hover hight?

To dilbeck and Vortex......... I've been wondering how to set the d/r and I think I've got it (I went to channel 5 and set that to 80%) but I'm a bit wary about expo, there's high and low rates and all it says is for trim, havent figured out where throttle and rudder is, if you dont mind explaining I'd apprecciate it, thanks.

To Codeheli....sorry about hijacking your post like this, hope you dont mind.

Robb
