There's an easier way! You can remove the main shaft and the screws at the top of the frame. Then you can spread the top of the frame and remove the upper bearing and the thrust bearings. Next remove the see saw out of the front of the frame and then with some wiggling and struggle you can get the main gear out of the frame. The hard part is reinstalling the bearings on reassembly but take your time and it works great.
I just replaced my main gear as it was one of the casualities in my crash. It took less than ten minutes!
The rest of the heli is another story though.
