Yes a longer boom is a good idea, the 50 size is probably the same diameter.
The Hawk is not a precision machine, the Pro version is about the best you will get of that range in 30 size. Its good if the servo control rods are all supported by bearings etc. But slop and play is no bad thing, I found the Hawk I had flew well enough..it was a tough machine.
I almost bought a Falcon 50, thats a nice looking heli....but nitro is expensive..thats why I went petrol instead.
Its up to you about upgrades, personally its only worth it if you intend flying that bird a long time...nothing wrong with that. I intend to keep the Predator a long time....might upgrade one day to Turbine...but this is only if I burn enough petrol to make it worthwhile.
