New flyer and battery ?'s

Hello all! Just purchased a Helimax Axe Cp, and a Walkera 56 is on it's way. I recently broke and dislocated my right ankle, so I figured while I'm recovering I could learn to fly. Years ago I was a pretty good gas plane pilot, I did try electric planes a couple years ago which I couldn't really get into. I realize planes and Helos are apples and oranges, and after my first practice runs behind the controls it's even more apparent! I need some refreshment on battery systems. I want to go ahead and run LiPo's, but can't quite remember the particulars. Example, my Axe calls for 11.1v 960mh Lipo as a replacement for the Nimh. Can I use a higher ampere battery (1200-1500) w/o damage, or do you need to change out components? Also, what brand of charger do you suggest?

I'm trying to do some light skidding moves and attempt brief hovers at <12". Thanks for all the information for new pilots btw, extremely helpful! I'm finding trimming out the rig is somewhat troublesome, but I'm managing. I've noticed some forward and left cyclic drift at lift off, which seems to require a large amount of trim to correct. How stable should the bird be at takeoff? Is some float and drift to be expected? (I'm practicing indoors) I find it amazing that people can perform crazy aerobatics w/ these things. Your input is appreciated!
